Pavel Dmitrievich Bazhenov was born on June 18 (July 1), 1904, in the family of an icon painter in the village of Podolino, Vyaznikovsky district, Vladimir province (now the Palekh district of the Ivanovo region). From 1915 until October 1917 he studied at the workshops of the Committee of Trustees of Russian Icon Painting. After the October Revolution until 1926 he worked in agriculture. In 1926 he was accepted as the first student at the Artel of Ancient Painting. In addition to lacquer miniatures, he was engaged in monumental, theatrical and decorative painting, book graphics, porcelain painting, and drew friendly caricatures for his fellow artists. In 1935, the Association of Artists of Palekh (Artel changed its name) received a government order to develop sketches of playing cards. Of all the preliminary sketches created by several Palekh masters, the choice was made on the picturesque drawings of Pavel Bazhenov. The manufacture of the deck was entrusted to the Goznak Department. The cards were planned to be presented at the World Exhibition of Art and Technology, held in 1937 in Paris with the participation of 44 countries. This edition was awarded one of the 95 Grand Prix won by the Soviet Union. During the Great Patriotic War, Pavel Bazhenov, as an outstanding artist, was given a "booking", but he refused it. Among other Paleshans, he went to the front by train moving from Ivanovo in the direction of Yaroslavl and beyond. During a train stop at the Lom station in the Rybinsk region, a bomb hit the carriage where the artist was. Pavel Bazhenov died on November 12, 1941, and was buried in a mass grave there at the Lom station.

Edition 2021. Format 58x89 mm. 36 playing cards per deck plus eight additional cards with miniatures by Pavel Bazhenov and two jokers. Two types of cases. Two types of shirt.
